i use to run an alpine 9833 and have changed to the eclipse avn 5435. The eclipse has amazing clarity even listening to radio. The only thing that i dont like on the eclipse is that it doesnt have xover that i can use, i run 2 way passive but when i had my alpine i could play w ith the slopes and made it sound smoother. Also there is no sub controller function so that you can turn it lower or off. I miss those function and paying 1 grand for this thing it should have those features. so my question is , does it really matter if i have xover on my hu, even if i have a 7 band eq?

how could it have no sub level controller? Is there an adjustement for "non fader"?

You got to be kidding me. Thats alot of bread to pay for a head unit. It should be able to do cartwheels for fine tunning. I only paid 250.00 for my Excelon and it is amazing. I don't get it. I'm sorry to hear that you are dissapointed. I would think it would matter about the crossovers even with the 7 band eq. I would think it would have to have a sub controler. Most good head units I have seen do. It should be a given.

The AVN5435 is an AudioVideoNav unit, that is why it is so expensive. That's really what you are paying for. Even the Eclipse HDD unit (5495 i think) doesnt have all the audio features of the CD5000 or CD7000 (CSII, etc). So, for a grand, with navigation and a double din screen, it really shouldn't have the ability to do cartwheels. Every company is different. The Pioneer AVICD2 retailed for $1,600 when it first came out and doesn't even have a built in DVD player.

Actually the 5495 does have CSII.
