i could be wrong, but i'd like to think that this isn't only the SECOND job he's applied for in his entire life, meaning he should have more than one reference.silver: probably notphildapimp89: the pc shop was a chain but the store I work for broke off. There's three employees including myself... I didn't need trained, in fact, I schooled them on some things (and I'm 18)
photocrazy8 and yne721: in order to be considered, you have to have previos work experience. Little/no experience in technical positions = no job
Jintar: what do you "do"?
Flipx99: awesome

in the five years i've been able to be employed, i've managed to get more than one job in the two fields i work.
i have 3 references as an automotive painter, so when i apply at new shops, if i'm worried about a reference someone might give me, i have two more shops to choose from...
and in the off season i work at restaurants, serving and bartending, and i have about 8 different references to choose from there...
but seeing as how i don't fully know the situation, maybe the place he works at currently IS his only reference in that field. but since they offered him a job, they know he's semi-knowledgable(sp) in the field...
in my case - 11 references, and most job apps only have fields to fill in for 3 previous employers..
that sucksI got my first car in mid july 04. My currrent situation was that beforehand, nobody I could walk to called me becasue of no work experience. I couldn't get rides anywhere due to the parental situation. no ride + can't walk = no work
I couldn't get a car sooner because I had to wait for the divorce situation to clear. I had ~3.5k stored away but my father put a clause on the account that I couldn't use the money unless I was 21 or had to use it for school, or he had his lawyer change the clause. It took a while to get him to let me use it to buy a car.
employment history:

Sep 2004- present, computer repair shop
sweetJust thought I'd let you all know.
I love playing the electric keyboards and singing into the mic at best buy.
A guy gave me a dollar once.
when you show on your application that you only keep jobs somewhere around 2-6 months, it looks bad on your behalf. time in between jobs also looks bad. i don't check references when people come by, so lying would work out better than the truth in shady cases. i ask the person, face to face, if they have any experience in the field and if they have a driver's license. yes and yes will usually get them a job....in the five years i've been able to be employed...
