Of all the AQ2200D amps in service, and there is a lot of them out there, we have had exactly three returned for service. One was UPS freight damage and two were from the same person who purchased the amps for use in a total new build. That person fried the amps the instant he turned them on. At the time he thought he fried only the slave and sent the amp in for repair. The repaired amp fried the instant he turned it on. This amp had been bench tested for several hours and was known to be working when returned to the customer.
I then had the customer send in the master amp, the amps were being strapped, and we ran both amps on the test bench for several hours in the strapped mode. After several hours both amps failed with the cause traced back to the "master" amp. We are fairly confident as to why the "master" amp failed which caused the whole series of problems and I will leave it at that. The customer received a new amp along with the again repaired slave amp and I have not heard from him other then to read on one of the forums that both amps were working fine. I do believe he stated that he had done some "power testing" and the amps were doing rated power. He also mentioned he was no longer strapping the amps.
Several of our customers run strapped AQ amps with no problems. The fact of the matter is that only two AQ2200D's have been in for service both belonging to the same person in a new build. Well it did happen and we repaired and replaced the amps. If we are not 100% sure of the failure mode even though we have good reason to believe the problem didn't originate with the amp we give the benefit of the doubt to the customer as any good business should do.
I do know that this customer's problem with his amps has been the subject of many threads on most of the car audio forums bashing the AQ2200D. I am sure that I will see more of the same but that's freedom of speech; this is a tough business and if you can't stand a little heat this is the wrong business to be in.
