Hello everyone,

Well I sold my crappy system a long time ago and kinda missed having a system in my car, so when a friend offered my this lil amp at a price i couldent refuse, i now own a Planet Audio Big Bang 150.4 4 channel amp. The thing I like most about this amp is that it did bridged 600wrmsx2 channels at 4 ohm mono, now here is my question. It does 600wx2 at 4 ohms mono, in the product manual, it shows the speaker impedance has to be 4-8ohms on each channel, so would i need 2 subs with 2ohm dual voice coils to achieve 4ohms to each channel? Or would I need 4ohm dual voice coil subs? I am just trying to achieve the 600wrmsx2 at 4ohms as it is advertised, please let me know which model type-r's i need to get the max power, i am pretty sure i need the 2ohm dual voice coil version...THANKS A TON!

Here is a link to the product manual if that helps: http://www.planetaudiousa.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=216&nav=0,1

Here is a shot at the internals of the amp, looks pretty good! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

From the pdf you included, each of the bridged channels will take 4 ohms.

So you'd need dual 2 ohm subs, running with coils in series (4 ohm/sub, with 2 channels running). Not sure that this would push the subs to their optimal excursion, but it would be plenty loud for a 4 channel franken-system

Hey guys, another quick question.

So the amp specs say 600wrmsx2 @ 4ohms mono, does this mean it does 600w to 2 seperate channels for a total of 1200wrms? Or does it mean it does a total of 600wrms to 2 channels (300wrms to each sub)? A little confused, planet audios manuals are a joke!

yes, that manual is a joke, and the ratings aren't exactly crystal clear either.

One thing I would assume if I had that amp is it's NOT 600x2 rms at any impedance. To produce 600w per bridged channel into 4 ohms it would need to be something around 300x4 at 2 ohms stereo (RMS) and the manual clearly says 300x4 is a MAX rating. Plus a total of 1200w on 2 40A fuses is not likely.

It is probably 400-500w x 2 bridged into 4 ohms. With a pair of dvc 2's wired to 4 ohms each sub should see 400-500w.

Ah excellent n2audio, thank you for the input, I was really scratching my head on that one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

This is kinda my first real system I've ever owned, I had a hilarious Sony Xplod(ed) 1200w peak amp that probably did 130wrms total to two wal-wart lightning audio bolt speakers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif The whole thing was a joke and eventually the amp blew a channel

Now I think the one I'm putting together will be a lot better this time, I mean its not its not the greatest equipment but it will certainly be better than Fords factory tape player!

Here is the current build so far, im picking up the subs and the box on Friday locally.

2002 Ford Escort Zx2 5 Speed

Pioneer DEH-p4900IB (3 sets 4v preouts, direct subwoofer control)

Planet Audio Big Bang 150.4 (600x2 @ 4ohms)

2 12" Alpine Type-R (2ohm dvc)

3.25cf Slot ported box @ 38hz

Hope to have it all done Friday, I got the amp and the head unit for around $110 total for both, so i think i will be quite happy with what I paid to performance ratio in this small little car.

Eventually I will get a set of components and use the 4 channel amp to power them, and get a mono block amp to really drive the subs.

I actually have a similar amp -- the Lanzar version. Opti4x400d. It's 100x4 at 4 and 180x4 at 2 -- 360x2 bridged.

I paid $112 for it and thought that was a pretty good deal. $110 for the 150.4 and a decent HU is a steal.
