i just got home from gettin my 180 amp h/o alt installed. hook up my digital cap up to it now it reads 12 volts at idle when in drive 13 when in park. before with my stock alt it read 14 at both drive and park at idle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. wtf is goin on here?

HO alts is over rated....

Stock alts with multiple batts FTW!!

I had the same problem as you, bought a stock $50 alt and couldnt be happier..

here is the wierd part if i barly and i mean barly touch the gas it jumps up to 14.50 and stays on constant. so that shows the alt is givin power but what cause's it to be lower at idle then my stock? i called the manufacter and he said he will make me a new pully thing to put on it that will make it spin faster at lower rpm someting like that. but yeah i dont know what to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif 700 dollars so far and not impressed ;(

Hey not to high jack ur thread but im in the same boat as you..Okay my alt is dying right now, its reading 12volts at idle and my battery light is on. I called a couple of places for alts and my stock alt is 105amps. I can get that for around $70 and he has an 140amp for about $165 and a 165a for $185. But the thing is i dont plan on keeping this car for a long time I plan on selling it or trading it in next month but i want to be bumpin for the time being..the question is will the stock 105a wit big 3 be good for my application?

I just had to have my car towed home today because of the **** alternator not charging properly. My idle volts were around 10.9v all day today. I am sooooo PISSED with DBELECTRICAL right now, it's not even funny.

It seems to be quite common with HO alts as they don't kick in with some of the low idle RPM's that a lot of cars have.

Sounds like a smaller pulley would do the trick. I have one of those on my EA alt and it's 14.5v at idle...

That works too. Still wouldn't buy an HO alt unless it put out considerable amperage at idle. I wonder why they have these problems in the first place though. You'd think the manufacturers would figure this out before they sold the stuff.

where would u buy a pulley that would fit on an EA alt n are they easy to put on? My EA Voltage rarely goes above 13.6 and goes as low as 12.4 while driving. This is with only a single 400 watt 2 channel amp installed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
