WHY?
Well I finally got metered and the mic used was an audiocontrol. I guess this isn't as good as the linear-x you guys speak of but it's all this shithole town has!! Anyway the highest number I could manage to put up was 149.4 Is this about normal for one sub?And also I was just playing music. I figured they would have a test disc or something but he told me to just play whatever I had. (what a day to leave bass mekanic home huh?) So tell me what to think of this score.....High,low,average?

Right now just a single hcca 15 in a 5.6 ported box. I got it running at 1 ohm off of a jbl 1200.1. I'm getting ready to sound deaden my whole truck so hoping that will put me in the 150's. Can anybody tell me why there is such a differance with the window(s) open? I had my driver window maybe a 1/4 of the way down and it did 151.something then he told me to put my window up and the best I could do is 149.4. How do they do it at professional comps.? I used to enter quite a few local comps but this was about 8 years ago and they would let you open doors, windows whatever you wanted to. I've just been getting back into the car audio thing so would someone please enlighten me??!!

Nice score for a single 15 and only 1400 watts. The HCCA's are nice and that's right about what someone up here hit with an hcca 15...I think he did a 148.something...

So do you think if I sound deaden the truck I could touch the 150 mark? (150 is what I was really hoping for) A lot of people throw around 150 scores like its nothing (I think half of them are full of shit) But it's not an easy # to achieve I'm finding out!!!

a 149 on an AC mic is not all that good no offense. that mic is off by about 5db on avg. so i would say a 149.1 subtract 5 you would do about a 144 on a linear x or other good mic. sound deaden your truck will help. i would say use a bass test cd and burp it with the hz. your box is tuned to improve your score. by the way what's the port tuned to?? and what kind of car??

adam

The port is tuned to 45 hz which means nothing to me. I got the box straight from an orion tech. rep. so this is what he recommended. I see yours is tuned to 55 hz but I'm really lost when it comes to this stuff. Should I build a new box and tune it differant? I'm still in the trial and error stage so it's no problem to try other stuff. This is in a '95 pathfinder head unit is clarion dxz925 also have an alpine 11 band eq that I will be putting in today. Excelon 5x7's in the front doors and the stock shit in the rear. Still a work in progress //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

well unlike you, i think that is a great score with only a single sub. we are tryin to encourage people here not bring them down especially when they have accomplished something respectable. congrats on the score rmkrider1

dude i'm just stating a fact that ac mics are inaccurate not that 149 is bad. sorry even if it was linear x though and a 144 on an AC mic look at loneranger's setup he only did like a 149 on that mic. i was wrong in saying the score is bad the mic is bad sorry. i would say re-tune it to around 50-60hz for SPL only b/c that will sound like dung for daily but burp a sine wave that is 55hz in a 55hz port box and it will be louder b/c the higher freq. the higher your SPL. plus the res. freq. of your car would be around what mine is at 55hzish.

thats a great score for a single driver and a $275 amp!

numbers do increase when wiondows are opend or trunks are oppend.I have read theories as to why this happens, but I dont remeber, somthing about cancelation I think. Dont know how true that is with single driver set ups though.

I aim to break 150 with my B15/revo combo in my king cab nissan p/u

your score will increase a bit once you dampen your ridr. but if you really want a noticable difference. you gotta dampen the hell out of it

good jjob though!

I think the reason why it's louder is because it's easier to flow more air through the car...here's a kinda good example. Sometimes in the summer we open our windows up in our house. Our door downstairs doesnt close that easily normally, but when the windows are all open, it closes really easy...well I don't know if thats a good example or not lol. But you kinda get the idea...it's basically the idea of a ported box...takes less to move the sub cuz it's not airtight.

i always thought that it increases because it stops flexing in your car...
