Just got DirecTV with teh Ultra package

I have had satellites in the past and had nothing but bad experiences with them and they both were professionally done. One was at my old house and other installed at my grandfathers. We both went back to cable and find that Time Warner is a lot better in our experiences. Yeah, the satellites give more HD channels, but I am fine with the 45 channels I get.

Weather has always messed ours up and everybody I know that has a satellite has had nothing but problems. We have it at our work place and goes out a lot. Just reminds me why I like cable that much more.

Mines fine, very rarely goes out.

we had DirecTV for about 4 days then paid the penalty to go back to TimeWarner... but thats just us. Up in Maine my parents had it back in the late 90's and we had to find diff satellites to point to if the weather was bad, which up here it usually is come about january when there is alot of snow/ice on the dish.

What is the difference between this and Dish Network's Turbo HD?
I left DTV when they didn't partner with "Tivo" for their dvrs anymore, switch to dish and their HD DVR is pretty good.

There will always be people who say, "DTV HD picture quality is better" or vice versa. But it pretty much comes down to channels & equipment.

Here is a link to a channel lineup to see who has what.

I called about DTV a few months back, that shit costs the same as Comcast HD now so I would rather keep the reliability of cable than have to deal with DTV when we get bad storms etc.

I suppose if you always have a clear view of the sky it would not be an issue but in 3 weeks time we had lost our picture twice which is when I pulled the plug.

Comcast is expensive here. iirc it was about $110 w/ the dvr and HBO.

Now I pay $74 for the same + more HD. This also my 2nd year getting the Sunday Ticket for $49.99.

Yeah, I'd rather read than pay Comcast. I think I have a thread here about it.

Hell, I have a dry loop DSL now, $22.50 a month, no taxes.

If I were to bundle with AT&T, I think I would come to $110 out the door. However, I have no use for a home phone and I hate Dish Network.

How can DTV's HD picture quality be better when it is broadcast at 720p vs. cable's 1080i broadcast?

Another thing that keeps me from getting Satellite is my next door neighbor has it and his goes out constantly.

I will say if I had an over the air HD antenna, I may get free TV. Humm, I should try it, lol!

Honestly though, I have the package deal, High speed internet, Cable and cable phone for right around 110 a month now. Was a lot higher with all the movie channels I recently got rid of. Still have HBO and all the HD tier channels. Not to bad.

Because 720p > 1080i all day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif If it was 1080p than you would be correct.

I believe DN offer full 1080p w/ their turbo HD, but they **** you for it.
