just got a speeding ticket

it was a state route, and i was like a 1/4 mile away from the 55 mph zone
So what part of the above statement makes it alright? Or do you agree that you provided the opportunity for the police to pull you over? While some officers use their discretion on ticketing, this one obviousely chose to pull you over. While you assume it was random or targeted, perhaps he had seen you operating in a similar fashion before or had a radio call from another officer minutes ago about you. Perhaps your plates were queried before he chose to ticket you and it showed entries related to your vehicle that were speed related. There are lots of reasons as to why you were pulled over but it all starts with your actions.

It amazes me the mentality of young males and driving. You think the police are out to get you and target you specifically for it. Here is a thought, don't break the law and see if they target you. Statistics of driver accidents and fatalities do not lie. You young males are the #1 most hazardous driver on the road due to many reasons and 99% of you whiny little girls on this site who complain about getting pulled over should pull your head out of your a$$ long enough to understand that it is you that is the problem, not the man who is giving you the ticket.

At my age, I am most certainly one of the people that are from that era and I should have made a more accurate statement rather than a blanket one that the older generation know is different. For the latest generation of drivers (up to say 30 years old or even a little higher or lower depending on location) driving the vehicles that are most frequenctly encountered on the roads today, I cannot think of one that did not have a seatbelt in it nor can I think of one Province or State where the use of a seatbelt is not mandatory. (for the record the Motor Vehicle Act here in BC makes certain laws inapplicable to law enforcement personel - one of which is use of a seatbelt)
I have a 69 Barracuda Convertable hiding in the garage.... lap belts....
Understood. I dont know what its like in BC, but here in the states if your car came equipped with lap belts, you are not required to use them, or replace them with shoulder type harnesses.

Here's a little info on seat belt history, though it doesnt mention the lap belt clause Ive talked about:

"The U.S. National Highway Safety Bureau first required automobile manufacturers to install lap belts for all seats and shoulder belts for front seats in 1968. However, most Americans did not regularly use safety belts until 1984, when the first state laws were passed mandating seat belt use. At present, there are 48 states in which it is illegal for a driver or passenger to travel without a seat belt (the exceptions are Maine and New Hampshire). Of those 48 states, 10 have primary enforcement, meaning that police can stop and ticket a motorist simply for not wearing a seat belt. The other 38 states with seat belt laws have secondary enforcement, meaning that police can only ticket people not wearing seat belts if they pull the car over for some other reason." - Cars, Boats, Planes, and Trains - When Did Seat Belts Become Mandatory Equipment On United States Motor Vehicles?: Science Fact Finder

Being in the insurance industry, while I agree that the risk of young male drivers is very high (they are the riskiest group), thus the high insurance rates, one must not confuse speed limits with safety. I can certainly cite many reputable sources that clearly show that higher speeds = more accidents/fatalities is not true. Typically accident rates are directly related to the amount of experience a driver has, and if he/she actually uses that big gray blob between their ears. Most people do not. Some very experienced drivers have done some really stupid things that have very little to do with speeding. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I do agree, Mr. Officer is simply doing his job. He doesn't control how the speed limits are set any more than he has control over the laws our hacks in the legislature pass. And officers will tell you, if they can SEE who is driving, they are much more likely to pull over a young driver. It stands to reason.

We cannot set different speed limits for different people, for many reasons, so any data showing intelligence or experience is a bigger factor than speeding in car accidents is moot. The faster your vehicle is moving, the quicker reaction times must be to accommodate varying circumstances, that is an undeniable fact. Therefore, its reasonable to say higher speeds cause more accidents. Im not saying all speed limits should be lowered, but I am saying dismissing speed limits as irrelevant is not viable nor realistic.

I feel everyone should be tested for reaction times yearly and given very rigorous driving assessments. Then a card is implanted on the license stating the speed limits for all roads types the individual is approved for. It seems quite simple to implement imo.

I love how everyone says young male drivers are the worst...at my high school, practically every single girl I knew had gotten into at least one accident, most of them totaled their cars. I'm not saying this sets the new standard, I'm just saying, where I grew up, young female drivers were the worst.

Well congratulations for living in either a place that defies all legitimate statistical information OR just a town full of lying shitbricks.

Lying? Who would be lying? I know for a fact who wrecked their car and who didn't. Wasn't a big town, people talk, and I knew everyone in my graduating class.

Right. You know everything. My bad.

I would like to instead congratulate you for being a busy body that sticks his nose in everyones business apparently.

Way to get defensive about the lying when I clearly gave an either or scenario. It shows that I probably touched on something resembling the true nature of your kick *** story.
What is your problem man? Somebody piss in your cheerios this morning or what?

I grew up in a small town, I knew everyone in my class, which wasn't that many people. How does that make me a "busy body"?

I'm not being defensive, I just didn't understand what you meant by saying I live in a town full of "lying shitbricks".

OK OK, maybe the town only has one lying shitbrick.

Cops are terrible in the commonwealth of VA.....I get pulled all the time for noise pollution and last spring I got pulled because they said my wheels were so shiney that they were giving off reflections when the sun hits them and could cause ppl to crash...I was like wow yall needa actually worry about people out there robbing banks and murdering people. Not an innocent civilian doing the speed limit with shiney wheels.

The shiney wheels incident sounds pretty far fetched and the noise pollution is warranted. There job is to worry about ALL the laws not just a few. Just another shithead trying to shift focus from their own irresponsible behavior.
