So I have just purchased my first subwoofer.

It is a KICKER 10" SOLO BARIC 06S10L7-4. with it being dual 4 ohm voice coil I am going to need an amp which is 2ohm stable yes?? The RMS on this sub is 600w. What amp would you guys recommend, I was looking at an Alpine MRD-M605

(600w rms @ 2ohm) is this a good choice?? I suppose I am asking if I have to match the rms of the sub exactly or if I should slightly overpower it or can I underpower it without damage??

What do you recommend.

So you're telling me that I safe to put 750w rms to the sub which is only rated at 600w rms? Can you please explain.

Can anyone tell me if its safe (or even worth) powering this sub with 750w RMS cos I wanna buy the amp now.

The L7's will take more power than they are recommended. I have 1500 watts on my 2 12" L5's and they take the power fine. But they are in a sealed box(I know its stupid to have them sealed but i'm too lazy to build a box)

do not clip the amp....if the gains are set correctly then you will be fine...you will blow a sub by underpowering and trying to crank something out of it that aint therethus being your amp isnt powerful enough, rather then overpower it with a clean signal....and not blow it, you will get full potential this way with no threat to your woofer. if gains are set correctly

yea its completely safe to get a amp that will put out more power than the sub's rated RMS... because you can control that power by setting the gains on the amp carefully

like the guy above me said, its better to get a higher rated amp and set the gains low, instead of getting a amp thats underpowered and trying to set the gains high and end up damaging either the sub or amp

I agree, and with an amp that puts out more power than what you need, you have the benefit of having a little headroom in the amplifier. This means you would be less likely to run it into clipping, because you would be satisfied with the performance at a lower setting.

^ sorry if that was a little hard to understand ^
