Just DVI or DVI to HDMI?

Right now I have my computer hooked up to my TV so I can watching movies and shit on there. I'm just using DVI right now (videocard has a DVI out and TV has a DVI input) but the cord is too short so I want to buy a new one. My question is, would there be much of a difference if I just got a longer DVI cord or got DVI to HDMI cord? I have a 720p tv.

So I want to connect my MBP to my HD LCD TV.

I assume I just buy a DVI to HDMI cable but is the DVI port on the MBP the male or female end?

In other words do I buy a DVI Male to HDMI cable or a DVI female to HDMI cable?

Any advice appreciated.
