Just did the Big 3...Battery + to alternator. Battery - to block, block to chassis. Before I did this My truck was running fine. Ater I first finished,my truck didnt want to start like it was fluided. Finally did start but I had to keep giving it gas to keep it running. Black smoke was coming from the exhaust pipe. Let it run for a while and it ran ok. Engine light is on now but wasnt on before. Did this at my dads house. Got home which is about 7 miles away and the truck ran fine. Engine light still on. Got home and cut the truck off and tried to start it again and acting like its fluided again or something.By the way,its a 1993 Suburban. What did I do wrong?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

Just double check your wiring, even though I doubt it's from your wiring. You may have accidentally hit something under the hood. I remember I accidentally bumped my intake enough to where there wasn't a seal anymore, my car would sound like it was breathing, the engine would rev up, then go down, rev up, down, etc. Again I doubt it's your wiring, just look over everything under your hood.

Did you disconnect your battery when doing the big3?

My car has I think an idle air control or what ever its called.. When the battery is disconnected, it pretty much resets it and needs to run for it to be normal again..

I'm no mechanic I hope that made sense LOL

that makes alot of sense, my dad told me something like what you are saying. Would that make the check engine light come on? Also,i have everything still ran as far as the wires, but I did disconnect the connections from the battery and just left the stock wires hooked up. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt my wiring.

Hmm, try tossin in your old alternator, see what happens. I had a HO alt built by dominick iraggi and after a year it sadly burnt out, had similar things goin on with my car to what your saying minus the black exhaust. Threw in the old alt and everything was fine (sold all my car audio stuff by then) Are you running the same belt as your old alt?

Same on my car, anytime I disconnect the battery it idles rough until I drive about 30 miles. It needs to reset air/fuel ratios and shit from what I understand.

My old alty had just gone bad. I replaced it with this stock alty i currently have. Didnt upgrade to a HO alternator, just a stock replacement. As far as the black smoke, that just happens when it starts up and stops. Light my truck was fluided out or something becasue like i said, I had to keep giving it gas at first for it to run smooth at idle.
