Joining the Army, Job Question

I have talked to my recruiter about jobs and he went through them with me and listed a couple.. Is a 64 alright on your test?

a 64 is above average

you will qualify for a ton of jobs

i got a 63 only things i couldnt do were intel jobs

i think thats what it was its been a LONG time since i took it

I dunno, but when I took the test it told me i could be a food service manager or a nuclear engineer, quite a stretch.

I am just looking through the jobs online and the ones he listed and its a bunch of jibberish to me.. Sounds like they dont know what to write down but they have to write something to make it look interesting..

the recruiters will lie to you to get you to join...they'll make everything sound grand...but you'll find out the real truth...besides bones i have another friend with a permenant disabled shoulder due to the army basic training....he found out just like bones what sorta twisted liars they are....

You have to go to college before joining the army to become a lt. or above, or you have to be accepted to OCS(officier candidate school) or you end up a NCO (non comissioned officer...) which I believe the highest rank for NCO is a sgt major...That takes allot longer then 4 years though unless you get a battcom (battlefield commission)

There are a ton of jobs that you can get into if you get the right MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) but that will depend on your asvab score (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

there are a ton of opportunites for someone right out of the army...They have almost the exact same jobs in the civillian sector as in the military; i.e..

communications,firefighter, police, mechanic for heavy equipment, heli's,jets, heavy equipment operator,etc...it all depends on what you did while in the military...

Hell even a grunt can get corrections officer, private security, forrest ranger,cop,swat if you were specops,and on and on and on...

And if your buddy has been out of the army for 6 months and no job, didn't he get some kind of money for college, why not start to expand on his MOS or ??? What was his MOS???

Or was he DD'ed??? (dishonorably discharged)

I dont expect to go in there and it feel like I am in high school again.. I have already been thinking about it, but another thing that bothered me is my cousin is a JW, he said yea I wont going it would be against my religion.. If it wasnt for them he wouldnt have that religion, but they just figure hey someone else will do it..

We could live in Iraq like it was 10 years ago.. I just feel like giving back. I know they sweetin it up and make it sound great. How good can being around guys 24/7 be? But the education and possible oppurtunities I cant pass up. I could just sit here in East TX the next few years.. Id rather tell my grandkids stories about the army then stories about how I sat on CA.com and played COD4 all the time..

-I have 48 hours in college right now, I really dont want to hear about why not to go. I am going, I have heard it before and I still want to go. Instead of me going and saying hey give me this job, and training and everything else and it not benefiting me later all because I didnt understand what they were saying on the internet when it sounded interesting... I was also using the 4 yrs as an example...

highest nco rank is

sgt major of the army there is only 1

25-30 years to get to that point

command sgt major is the highest you can get where there is more than 1 position

command sgt major would work directly under and with a brigade commander who would be an

0-6 colonel

i got out on a General Honorable and the state of IL wont even give me unemployment

yep i was seriously injured in Oct 2005 and i JUST NOW got an answer on disability

all i can say it BACK PAY

that's the exception. what is the ratio of enlisted men to captains? how many of them leave after 4 years? how many accomplish that rank in 4 years?
Not saying that it doesn't happen, but its not exactly what happens most offen

Many make captain after 4 years. I'd say most make captain by 5 years.

Also, a lot of them leave after 4 years also, which is why ROTC recruiters are offering large bonuses to certain cadets currently. It's a good deal. Pretty much everyone in ROTC will get a scholarship if they meet the criteria, 300-500 a month, and ~1200 a year for books.

But yes, if you enlist, you dont get much real world job experience. Especially if you're in combat arms. Thats why you should make up your mind before you sign up and you should know what you want to do.

Yeah that is correct, command sgt major is the highest but both are an E-9 so yeah...

and to OP, the score of 64 on the ASVAB is a good score...You should have your pick of a bunch of MOS's...I would definitely talk to your recruiter and talk to him about your possibilities, then research your *** off on all the private sector jobs avail that pertains to the MOS in question...

Right now I guess I am more worried about making the wrong decision, I have questions about when I go in, but that will be awhile. Plenty of time to ask them.

I might should have a little bit better idea of what kind of job I want to do but a job later on isnt exactly why I am going, if it all ****s up I can come back to doing what I am doing and be just fine.. Bones answered my question though through PM, they will sit down and talk to you when you get there.
