It seems that conventional wisdom has changed over the years to using 13 ply birch plywood for boxes instead of MDF. I'm good with that, since it's lighter and lots easier to handle but I question the methods of joining edges on plywood since my woodworker's experience says wood glue doesn't hold there very well. With MDF I used yellow glue and sheet metal screws (pre drilled pilot holes always). You guys do the same with plywood? Or dowels, or biscuits, or what?

I say go for it. Just add some kind of bracing to the bigger panels. Some old home speaker boxes were made of 3/8" mdf. Maybe not even mdf, some...
