jlw612 problems with voice coil

ok my buddy is running a alpine 850.1 on a jlw612 and the first one he had he blew the voice coil. so he had jl exchange it and the brand new one after about a month blew the voice coil again. what could be this problem? his settings on the amp are 1/2 on everything lpf bass and gain and he has a 80 amp fuse on his power line. any help would be very cool

well, if the amp is 850 watts, the dub 12 is only rated to 400. Yes, it will take more, but it needs to be clean. and half settings are half asss. Set the gains right with a meter, turn off any bass boost, and the lpf should be set around 80. in short sounds like he is clipping it to death. Whats the amps specs at 2 ohms?

at 2 ohms its 800 at 4 its 500 how can this be clipping it that bad when the w6 has a peak of 800

NO, You need to set the gains and other settings right. I ran a dub 12 at 900 watts with out problems because it was set up right. not just halfed.

Yeah I ran a 12W0 off of a PPI A600 (600watts) w/o killing that sub. That W0 is only 125watts rms.
