Scott Johnson: Hello, how may I help you?
Warren: I'm looking into getting the 9510 or 9512
Warren: here's the situation
Warren: I have a 1000.1 JL amp
Scott Johnson: then you would want the 12 for the RMS power handling
Warren: I want to run it on the 9510* if i get it however I think I will end up downgrading amps to the jl500.1
Warren: will the 10 be able to hold the power of 1000 watts?
Warren: b/c i noticed the rms of all the subs are 500-1000
Warren: what's ideal (and i will have a ported set up
Scott Johnson: I can't recommend that it will
Warren: oh really
Warren: why's that
Warren: details please..
Scott Johnson: because I cannot recommend overpowering our product being one of the techs for the company
Warren: i understand that but if the rms says 500-1000 watts and i have a 1000 watt amp how is that overpowering the sub?
Warren: actually n/m the rms of the sub is 750 correct?
Scott Johnson: yes
Scott Johnson: that is why I'm saying not to go with the 10"
Scott Johnson: the 12" will be gine
Scott Johnson: fine*
Warren: ok BUT I'm more interested in the 10.. and i'll explain why
Warren: I have a 13w7 right now I've had it for about 3 years - its too much for me and its time to put more effort into a good sound vs. killing my car. i think a 9512 will sort of put me in the same boat that i'm in now. if i get the 9510 i'm going to have the 1000.1 on it until i sell the amp then i wantedt o get a jl 500.1 to put on it. my i guess my question is "given that you dont' recommend overpowering the sub" will 500.1 be efficient enough for the sub .. how close to the rms do i need to be in a ported set-up
Scott Johnson: Please hold one moment
Scott Johnson: 500 will be plenty for that woofer
Warren: ok now flip my statment for the 12
Warren: 500.1 on a 9512*
Scott Johnson: that would be fine as well
Warren: so what is the point where power is just going to waist meaning one would get same performance no matter power. example: if i had a woofer that had 200 watts rms (there would be no difference in performance if i had 200 watts vs 400 watts besides the risk of blowing it and longevity)
Scott Johnson: you will notice a difference by under driving a woofer
Scott Johnson: but you will be ok
Warren: humm
Scott Johnson: you notice a big diffence when you're able to double the power or double the surface ara
Scott Johnson: area*
Scott Johnson: so going from 1000 to 500 you will notice
Warren: ok so given the information that you have (i have 1000.1 and might get a 500.1) and my interest being 9510 and 9512 which subwoofer will be most efficient w/BOTH amps?
Scott Johnson: 9510
Warren: great
Warren: can i purchase the sub online or do i have to go thru a retailer?
Scott Johnson: you need to go through a retailer
Warren: so i can't call up mtx and get the sub?
Scott Johnson: no, we do not sell direct
Warren: humm
Warren: I have some comments about that but i'll keep that to myself
Scott Johnson: well we can't sell direct and expect our dealers to not get upset
Scott Johnson: you can order from our factory outlet site but at MSRP pricing
Warren: true however your dealers don't promote the loaded boxes that mtx carriers
Scott Johnson: there would be no discount
Warren: dealers perfer to upsale their own custom boxes to make additional profit
Warren: example: called a shop
Warren: asked about sub etc..
Warren: i mentioned mtx's box
Warren: he said no no no
Warren: this happens a lot which i'm sure you're aware of
Scott Johnson: i don't hear about that stuff on my end too much
Warren: probably wouldn't if i dealer i wouldn't tell you either
Warren: keep in mind all they want is the equpiment, they can make up the back end on doing a box
Scott Johnson: would you like the website address?
Warren: nope
Warren: thanks scott
Scott Johnson: you're welcome
Scott Johnson: have a great day
Warren: you've helped me make a good decision - i will post your comments in a forum
Warren: onlinecarstereo.com (subwoofer section under the name limitkid7)
Scott Johnson: as long as it isn't that I'm recommending overpowering the 9500
Warren: you're not
Warren: that wasn't my question
Warren: my question was which was more efficient w/BOTH amps
Warren: you've answered that question
Warren: otherwise if you didn't answer the question you wouldn't be in the support section
Warren: haha
Warren: cya
Warren: whoops
Warren: i have one more question
Scott Johnson: yes
Warren: its a box question
Warren: i saw there were volume specs given on the site
Warren: but i can only assume those specs are for a 750 watt amp which is stated to be the rm of the 9510
Warren: considering that i'll have less power to drive the woofer ~500 watts underrated
Warren: what size do you recommend i go for the box given i'm 250 watts under the rms
Warren: *in slot ported box of course
Scott Johnson: i would use the same specs
Warren: so you wouldn't say larger box given the amount of watts?
Scott Johnson: the different wattage is not going to change the parameters of the woofer
Scott Johnson: no I would not
Warren: larger box allows air to move easier
Warren: in a ported box correct?
Warren: or is my assumption wrong
Scott Johnson: it changes the suspension
Scott Johnson: use the same box specs
Warren: k
