jl w6 v2's not what i expected

Hello i wanted to know if anybody else has a similar setup or has heard one and can tell me if they think something is wrong with my settings or something

I have a jl 1000/1 on two 13.5" w6v2's and its not as loud as i thought is was going to be. i have it in a 2002 explorer pointing towards the rear hatch in a ported box tuned to 35 hz.

the amp is wired with 2 gauge wire with an optima yellow top in the front and the back. the head unit is a kenwood 8019 touchscreen with 5 volt preouts. i even set the amp like it says on the jl website. I had it set at 1ohm before and it was alot louder but the amp was clipping and making my speakers pop because its not 1 ohm stable so now i have it wired at 4 ohms and i still sounds good just not as loud. I guess i just expected more. the amp is supposed to put out 1000 watts between 1.5 ohms and 4ohms. is it possible to wire it to 2ohms with dual 4 ohm subs, because maybe it is dropping a little power at 4 ohms. or any other suggestions beside the guys i know are going to say i shouldnt have bought jl audio.

thanks for your help and sorry this is so long.

They're not loud subs.
There is no way to wire them to 2 ohms.

The amp puts out imperceptibly different power over the range of loads and if you set the gain according to manual, they will put out the same power.
x2 check make sure you havent screwed up any of the polarities... pos to pos... neg to neg.. and if you set the gain right it should be as loud as it was wired to 1 ohm... how big of a difference are you talking about?

I'd still think that two 13.5s ported would get decently loud.

What size is the box? And if the amp was clipping, I'm willing to bet that you simply interpreted the distortion as more output.

you guys are full of shyt.....i had 10" W6's and 12" W6"s and they get plenty loud. They ARE built for SQ tho, but yes they can get very loud. My guess is they need more power or a different box

of course his idea of loud may be way off from what our version of loud is.....so not being able to hear them, i couldn't really know/tell you whats going on

As mentioned before, not loud. I went up against the same setup, 2 jl w6's on a 1000/1 in my first comp and it only hit a 138.1. I got 3.1 dB louder wtih my dd 9515 on 700w in a trunk setup. I also had a leak in my enclosure and wasnt. The other guy had a scion xB and was getting some flex from the hatch, but yeah, not very loud subs.

Loud is very relative and, for the average person, 138dB is plenty loud. Personally, for listening to music, that is almost too loud for me to enjoy the material.

the difference in the loudness was pretty noticable also the sound was alot smoother and it hit harder. but when i turned it up for it to be a little bit louder it would make a popping noise. thats when i found out that i had them wired to 1ohm on an amp that wasnt 1ohm stable thats when i wired it to 4 ohms. now the sound quality suffers but it will still rattle ya pretty good. but for it being a sub that everyone is talking about its sound quality, im not very impressed, but i do have it in a ported box. I had a set of 12inch dvc eclipse alluminum subs in a sealed box before these, (on the same amp) and they sounded a lot better, just didnt get as loud. also the box was made by a jl dealer to the specs for a ported box off of jl's web site

to sum it up, they get pretty loud but they kind of sound like they are spl subs, is that just because they are in a ported box. i would hate to have to switch my setup because i just got it looking really nice.

True, but this was with test tones. On music with more power i was louder, but still not loud enough, but sometimes it was loud to the point i couldnt take it and had to keep it down, that was usually about 30 mins or so of it all the way up.
