does anyone know if jl makes a recone for the W6. The surround is dry rotted and has a slight rip in it. How can you get it and how much.

If the surround is the only thing that's gone bad, you might be able to buy a generic surround from PE, Madisound or others and do a refoam, it's easier than a complete replacement of the soft parts...

w6's have a pretty big surround.. and jl is a ***** about recones.. only they do them.. they don't provide places with them.. you have to take it to a dealer and they ship it in.. if its just the surround do what he said.. find a pretty big surround and do it yourself.. and how did it rot?

i dont know how it rotted but it isnt all the way through nearest the basket, but it did dry rot through about a quater way around the sub on the inside nearest the cone. So does any one know of a generic surround?? This is the thrid jl ive seen with this problem.

JL Audio doesn't sell recones, nor do they do them

If your sub is under JL warranty, they simply send you out a new sub, the broken item goes into testing for why it failed, notes are taken and then it is recycled for new materials.

If it's a W6v1, I'm not really surprised, earlier foam surrounds and long-term exposure to UV light does cause problems. This problem is also endemic to Advent, Acoustic Research, Bose 301/901's, Dynacos, JBLs...most of the time the soft parts are in perfect condition, but the surround falls apart. Refoaming is a piece of cake, though...

Yah it is a jlw6v1.............Jl said to use E9000 (apoxy) or something like that. I would like to do a refoam because the sub is in great condition other than that. still sounds good but its gonna go sometime soon.
