JL components and different models

I ran the XR once and never again. Way over priced and I got a Dealer buddy hook-up. They where ok nothing to call home about. I replaced them with Diamond HEX which was an improvement.IMO

The ZR are way over priced considering the company they are in at their price range.

I will say this my buddy who is a JL and Diamond dealer pushes Diamond over the JL for people looking to spend larger amounts of cash. If going to spend ZR money better start looking at Rainbow, Dyn ect. which will kill a pair of ZR's.IMO

JL-AMPs good amps over priced.IMO

JL-Comps no thanks no matter what model we are talking.IMO

JL-SUBS good subs over priced.IMO

No I am not a JL hater I ran their stuff for years in the mid to late '90s.

I don't think anyone here is going to proclaim the XR's as the best comps out there, but they're not over priced if you buy them off the internet. They can be had for low $200's and for that, they're pretty darn good. You'd have to spend quite a chunk more than that to get a better set of comps. I'd put the XR tweets up against ANY tweets regardless of price, however there's nothing outstanding about the mids. They're good, but not great. I agree 100% that the ZR's are over priced. Like I said, I heard no difference between them and the XR's. JL's amps are somewhat over priced, and their mid to high end subs are definitely over priced. Good stuff, just over priced.

The Pinoneer PRS have better midrange and the tweeters are about even. So for the better midrange I will take the Pioneers in this price range. I hate to say it but the PG RSd are almost as good as the JL XR and they can be had for $95 on ebay the JL tweeter is a little better but the PG mid is a little stronger than the JL.IMO

I would not put the JL tweeters up against anything no matter the price. Because then people like me, will Say ok lets compare them to the Genesis Absolute R1 (aka scan speak ring), Rainbow Cal26, 27, 28, Scan D3004/6600, 7000, Seas Neo, Seas lotus Ref, CDT DRT-25, Hiquphon OW1/OWII, Peerless HDS, Dynaudio MD102, Hertz ML280. Ok I will stop now.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You know I am just messing with now because you made that statement.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The XR's and ZR's are very close to one another. In place of the XR's JL has released a couple models of the new C5's, with more to come. These are a step up from the XR, and allthough they don't handle the same power as the ZR's, are rumored to sound better than the ZR's just a tad.

I've owned the VR's in all my systems. On one system, I had them by themselves off a Premier head unit, and on the other one I had a 300/4 on them. They sounded great. No distortion at any volume level, very clear.

But I had heard the XR's and the XR's sounded better. Smoother, a bit more vivid sound and less harsh (not that the VR's sounded harsh at all. Just the XR's did sound noticable better)

For my next system going in December, I'm getting the new C5's.

If you'd like to read on the exact differences in technoligy and such on them, just read over the sections here:

Mess away. I'd still put the XR tweets up against of the ones you mentioned, and they'd compare very well. Flawless is flawless regarless of price.

Because you guys will debate for hours that they are the best.

Usually but not always, when asked what other brands have you run to compare everything to its usually that you have ran nothing but JL.

I liked JL for along time to, years and years ago, until I broadened my horizons. Now, I know better. They make a decent product but for the price there is just better out there than some of the stuff they offer. I am not saying don't buy JL, I am saying broaden your horizon's a little. I don't ride any band wagon, I have three vehicles all with different stuff in them.

Just like comparing their tweeters above to ones I listed. I am not sure most of you guys even know what some of those tweeters are and understand that some of those are considered by many to be the best tweeters produced period.

We will still have people argue that the JL tweeter can compare.

Its not matter a of whether or not the JL's are actually pretty good but to want to compare them the likes of Scan, Rainbow, Seas, Peerless HDS ect they are just not in the same league.

Yes, I have compared JL comps to Seas, CDT, Diamond, Rainbow and soon Dyn or Scan; Zapco, Arc, Audison, Aura for amps; Now their subs are still some of my favs I just will not spend that kind of money, if I did it would be for an Aura NS. Since I won't and like IDQ, DIYMA just as well thats where I spend my money. I am a SQ oriented guy though.

I am not sure why I even conitnue to carry on this conversation but I guess because its fun to see what kind of response I will get.

I pretty much agree with all you said. JL is not the end all be all and there are products that are ahead of them, both in the speaker dept. and Amps.

The only thing I've maintained ever since I became a JL owner and fan...is that the ammount of products similarly priced and of the same quality and sound are few. Are there products out there as good if not a bit better for the same price? Yes. But compared to the mass market, the number is relatively few.

This is a testament to those companies and JL to be in small group of exceptional products.

Nobody in here made any claims that JL is the best. I am also not a JL guy. I am an audiophile who is interested in just about everything that has to do with sound reproduction. That said, I have listened to many different types and brands of speakers, even some of the ones listed in the previous posts. I can honestly say I have never heard a tweeter that sounds better than the XR. That isn't saying it's the best tweeter made, it's saying exactly what it said. To my ears, the XR's sound as good as any I've heard. That doesn't mean someone else is going to hear exactly the same thing. I've had people tell me they actually like the sound of MB Quartz tweets when to me, they are some of the harshest sounding tweets I've ever heard. Everyone's senses are a little bit different, which is one of the reasons all people don't buy exactly the same audio gear. I just don't understand when someone says they like something, they're automatically labeled as being brand blind.
