JL Audio vs. Kenwood excelon

I am looking to do a system upgrade on my stereo equipment and am needing some good advice on what company to use for the amp and subwoofer. I am looking at the JL Audio XD700.5 channel amp and one of their 12W3V3-4 12" subs in a custom 1.25" enclosures or using the Kenwood X700/5.5 excelon amp and the Kenwood 10" Excelon Series Mobile Subwoofer - KFC-XW10. I have heard alot of positive things about both of these set ups but am not sure which company to use. I am presently running the Kenwood DNX6020Ex head unit and 2 sets of the Mirus co-axial speakers by Hybrid Audio Technologies. If anyone can give me some good advise I would be very grateful.

Post name, details and review of the equipment you're reviewing. This forum is for reviews only! No questions should be posted!

yea those are just about the only 2 options that I have here in this small town where I live,LOL. I could go online and buy different gear but I have always been told that the JL line of amps and sub's are a great line. Thank you for your Input and have yourself a great weekend.

jl is good product. most people including me dont like paying that much for so little.

the kenwood excelon line is also good. it the only line kenwood makes that makes rated power.

i would probably go with the kenwood and really id look into different subs.

the jl sub is a solid performer but again you can get more for less and the kenwood is going to be a let down honestly.

i would look into ssaudio.com/store for better sub choices. its a great site with great brands and for that power level i would go with a ssa dcon, sundown e-10, or e-12, incriminator i series of even the skar ivx line. fi car audio also has the fi x which would be a solid performer as well.

thank you for the advice and help. I am not familiar with the SSAudio line. what would you recommend in the way of an amp and a 10" sub?
for a budget instal i like the incriminator 5.1 and a dcon d4 that way if you want to go to 2 subs u can get another dcon d4 and wire to 1 ohm and be happy without spending an arm and a leg. i haven't tried the I-series from incriminator yet but the line they replaced was good so i would assume the replacement would be better.

you would be looking at around 400 for the amp and a 10" i series the a dcon would be about 20 bucks more for the 10. and you would have the flewibility to add another sub later if u liked.

also look at Amp Installation Kits, HDMI Cables for your wiring the product is great and the prices are unreal compared to mainstream wiring

the amp is rated for 500w at 1ohm and 250 at 2ohm but its underrated which means it really does around 350at 2 ohm and 650 at 1ohm. not to mention its a **** nice bulletproof amp. the subs are rated for 300w and can take a little more but its not necessary.

thanks but my last car was done up with nothing but Boston equipment and i am trying to stay away from going that high again. The total cost of that system was right at $8500.00. Although it was a sweet system. Thanks for the input.

Thank you so much for everything. I am looking into the site as we are typing and I am really interested. again Thank you. what do you feel about some of the olk skool amps? I have a good friend of mine that has some that he will let me have for near nothing. the amps are an old skool Precision Power PPI-2300M, Old School Rockford Fosgate Punch 800.2 and an old school Mcintosh Mc431. are any of these worth looking into as a possibility or not? any info on these amps would be appreciated.

the entire car was stripped and dynamatted from front to rear and then I had all of the factory wiring for the comps replaced with a higher gauge wire. the entire trunk was stripped, dynamatted and every piece of the Boston gear was customized into the trunk and hidden out of site. Yes it was alot of money but it was well worth it. at first i kept blowing the Boston sub until they replaced it with the Boston Acoustics G510-44 sub.

Boston equipment is way cheaper than JL man. I don't see how they got u to pay that much for all of it. If you buy online, u can save a lot of cash...
