First Hello to all, great forum and some very good threads here.

I am thinking about buying the 10W7 sub in the HO Wedge box but had a couple questions.

A few years back I had a 10W7 in a sealed box and was happy w it but the box was built like a tank.

1 Is the HO Wedge box built good?

2 I can buy on ebay new sub & box for less than 600.00 does this sound legit?

3 If I was happy w the 10w7 in a sealed box what can I expect w the ported or wedge box?

Thanks

To answer your questions in one answer... Much better can be had for way less...

My purpose for this system is #1 sound quality, I could care less about how loud it can go. I just like clean tight accurate bass. My greatest concern is will the ported box sound as good as the sealed box I had before and Im not very worried about the cost 600.00 is a bargin for the 10w7 n box.

Matter of opinion lol

I've heard a w7 in prowedge and it sounded pretty good. Got pretty loud too, but if your main goal is SQ, go with a w6 or two (if u wanna stay JL), better sq and u can get same volume with 2 of em, maybe even one. aside from volume/ output, the w6 has better sq than the w7 from my experiences with them

Would you think as a general rule sealed is better SQ over ported? Thanks

Never ending debate. But I personally think it depends on the driver ive never tested w6s Ported vs sealed. But in my experience with JL subs (old school) and designing boxes, id say its a matter of how much output u want. Ported being louder ofcourse but can also be tuned / designed for SQ.

I just ask because I have owned several high end Subs for home use (Velodyne DD18) and all have been sealed.

Personally id have a custom ported box designed for sq by someone here on the forum. Simply because if its too much output u can always turn the sub down but if not enough output, turning up a sub might lead to clipping and blowing it.
