HU alpine cda-117,yes sound deadning inside jeep except roof.they get loud but i want more punch.i listen to rock and want that very tight hard hitting kick drum sound.i think they would sound better if the air space inside door was smaller.i have heard there are mids that work better in larger volumes of air and that handle more power without bottoming out.amp is a jl slash 300/2(might go to a ARC KS 300.2) sub is a jl 12w6v2-d4 sealed box.amp is jl xd 600/1(might go to a ARC KS 1000.1)im going to buy them to either use or re sell.getting them both for little over 300.00. might be selling 2 day old C5 mids as well as a brand new C5-653.

I'd say keep them and do a 3 way active setup. using ZR800-CW - Car Audio - Evolution® - ZR - Mid-Bass Driver - JL Audio as a dedicated midbass. Might require some custom work but would be well worth it compared to just switching out speakers because most 6.5s cant produce powerful midbass for sh*t. Been on a mission searching for powerful midbass also, only conclusion i've reached is cone area along with quality of drivers thats geared solely for the 80-500hz range.

You can have those drivers in the doors or sealed down by your kick panels.

good idea thanks.any other good mids that are not quite as hard on the wallet(and does it matter where they are up front since they will be producing mid bass and dont have to be directional?.the C5s cost me quite a bit.and i bought 2 sets of them.

i am going to move my 4 inches out of doors to kick panel pods and add tweeters in pods as well.i already have c5 tweeters in doors so going to leave those.can oi still get a good sound stage with tweeters in door and kick panels.good idea about kick panels.i keep hearing by a ton of people say how good kick panel mounts sound.i do like the sound of the tweeter high though.but so many people go on and on at how good thoses kicks sound.

to do active dont you need 1 channel per speaker?

and dont know if the arc or the slash has enough tuning capabilities.

Correct-a-mundo.. You're going to have to sacrifice more channels but you will have more sound tweaking in your hands.. if your amps don't have enough tuning capabilities then you're going to have to invest in a DSP. It's not rly necessary as you can just use your amp active capabilities and just play around with the knobs.. what jeffdachef is saying is the best move you can make.. You're not gonna get the kick you want from swapping out different speakers. Either get your sub to play the midbass more or get a dedicated midbass and go active, which would be ideal..

Oh I misread, thought you had a 300/4. Yeah nevermind you cannot go active with those amps. Might be a plan for the future to have a 4 channel amp for mids and tweets and your remaining 2 channel for dedicated midbass if you want to do a 3 way active front stage. It'll yield the most midbass results when each driver is dedicated to its own specialized frequenices. Should be a fun project for you in the future for now though, I'd say save your money and do it big later on. There's only so much a pair of 6.5" midbass can do on its own playing both midrange and midbass.
