JL Audio 500/5

well i have a sub amp already, the JL 1000/1, i just got the 500/5 for cheap. But why they make it so only 25w is coming from the rear channel? if people were to buy this amp, wouldn't take shy away from it because it's not even for front and back?

because most audio set-ups generally require more power to your front stage and more so of 'fill' to the rears, you want your sound coming from in front of you rather then behind you, that is why they did it that way, very smart method for someone that wants rear fill but nothing too dramatic

I guess my main question will be, if it's a waste to have the focal k2p in the back when the amp is only doing 25w, and will it make it sound worst?
I don't see a reason to run a set of components in the rear but if you are going to then no this amp really won't suit your needs. What you really need is a good 150x4 amp...something like an Alpine PDX-4.150 for instance. Just an example, there are a lot of other good ones.

Do you already own the comps in the rear? If not and you want some fill just find some quality 6.5's or whatever size speaker fits your car. Even a decent set of Coaxials would work if your only looking for slight fill. But as was stated, comps i.e mids, tweeters, and a x-over for the rears is a bit much.

Yes, that would be a waste. My buddy has that amplifier in his Lincoln LS and I personally love it. It has L-R settings and a bandpass filter for the rear fill which is the only correct way to do rear fill. He has 5.25 JL coaxials in the rear. JL 3 way VR components up front and a single JL 12 (not sure what series)in a bandpass firing through the rear deck.

Good strong front stage with very little rear fill for a near "live" performance during playback.

Don't let the meager power ratings scare you. It makes more than enough power for any "sane" person in a daily driven car. But if you're hoping to knock over trash cans when you drive down the block this isn't the amp for you.

Disclaimer:

I'm one of the few people on this forum that actually prefer a system with rear fill (if done correctly) and can only assume that bashing and flaming will ensue. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif
