Im currently running a 10 W7 but lately have been thinking a lot about these sundowns and a few other underground brands. I had never heard of any of these brands until I joined the forum but am very intrigued lately. Would it be worth selling the W7 for a sundown 10"? Running them both on the same 1000/1 amp? Are the Sundowns or ??? that much louder then my W7?

The W7 is a great SQ sub. If you're not doing a full out SQ build, you could save a load of money selling it and getting the Sundown woofer, or just about any other woofer. The W7 is one of the most over-priced subs you can buy too. If you're not doing a full SQ build, and are just looking for something to be clean, clear, and loud, then you could sell it and have a ton of other options. The least of which, would be an SA-10.

Honestly, unless you just WANT to switch subs and can get a nice amount of cash for the JL, I would say just keep it. If you're happy with what you have, there is no point in setting yourself up for potential disappointment if what ever other subwoofer doesn't live up to your expectations. Personally I like the w7s but I wouldn't pay the going price for one. People say the w7 is a SQ sub, but from my experience they can get plenty loud too. Will they win SPL comps? Probably not... but for a daily sub that gets decently loud and sounds good, they do that well.

I agree with him. What are your goals and what do you want out of the sub? If you're happy with what you got, then the old saying "don't fix it if it ain't broke" applies.

Yeah I'm happy with it, I just use it daily in my car. It hits pretty hard for a single 10, I was just thinking if I could swap it out and get louder and deeper just by changing the speaker it might be worth it. I got the sub for a crackhead price which is why I have it.

You could easily get louder... but that would require a custom enclosure for the specific subwoofer you choose. It really boils down to if you want to put the effort and money into it. There are plenty of options to get louder but it. May not be as easy as just dropping another sub in the enclosure.

Makes sense, maybe I'll just wrap my car in deadener. I'm pretty happy with how loud it is, it amazes me every time I hear it that it's just one 10! I just figured if I could sell it and drop another 10 right in there to get more out of it I would give it a shot

Yea, not likely to get much of a positive difference from another 10 in the same box. I'm assuming you're running sealed? You could always benefit from a properly designed and built ported enclosure. And deadening will make a night and day difference with no equipment change necessary, I'd highly recommend that.

Most people buy other brands to save money over buying JL...since you already have one of the best subs money can buy I think you should stick with it
Hahaha not even close...

Op what Sundown sub are you considering? If you go with one of the upper models in a properly built box you would more then likely be louder but if you wanting to just drop in an SA series into your box now then I wouldnt bother...

Yea I heard a W7 in a GTO, single 10. Its was ported, tuned to like 34 I think. It got plenty loud! I would love to run 2 of the 13W7s. But would be even more content if someone made me a pair of iDMax 15s!!!

I'm not even sure which sundown I was looking at but it looked ******!

My w7 is in a ported box tuned to 32 I believe. I might just get some deadener and see if that makes me happy
