Jl 12 W7 Need Help!

I just bought a used jl 12 w7 from a friend of mine I was just wondering what amp I could use to power it. I was thinking a JL 500/1 or maybe a cheaper JBL 1200/1. What do yall think i should use???? ANy help is appreciated.

The 1200.1 might be good, but you have to realize that the 12w7 is a 3 ohm subwoofer. At 2 ohms this amp puts out 1200 Watts, at 4 ohms it puts out 600 watts, so at 3 ohms it would put out somewhere between theses values. Someone here probably knows the exact number, but I'm not sure.

I woudl say that 600 + RMS power would be pretty decent for the 12w7 for regular listening.

The 500/1 is a good amp, and it puts out the 500 watts RMS at 1.5-4 ohms, so you will get the power for your speaker.

there are other amps i would look into....jl 1000/1....although i hate the price on those.....as well as many others...

whats your price limit on an amp

I think that JL made it very difficult to power up a single w7 with anything but a JL amp. I guess it's good from their standpoint for selling amps, but it takes me right out of the market for a w7 since my amp produces power at 1 ohm.

Anyways, I'd try that 1200.1, it might serve you well. That is unless you are willing to pay the big money for a JL amp, then get one of those //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yea i dont want to spend over 400 but i will if necessary. Has anyone heard anything about the jbl 1200.1 (Im talkin the regular one not the new pro series) I heard a JBL 600.1 pushing two jl W3 v2's and it sounded pretty **** good so i dunno. Does anyone know any other amps i should consider? I just dont want to get one of those amps thats like "1000 watts" and ends up being like 200 watts rms.

O yea has anyone heard anything about those lanzar amps the 2000.1 or the 3000.1??

speaking from having a 12w7 .. i say get the phoenix gold amp that's 1400@2ohms and 1200@4ohms.. its the perfect amp for this sub and is cheaper/more powerful than the jl1000/1..

if you don't have the money then consider bx1500d (hifonics amp) like what i have, it'll give the sub ~775 watts @ that ohm load which is the rms of the w7 (should make the sub last longer than going over the rms (according to jl's website).
