JL 10W7's ported vs sealed

I listen to a wide variety of music so I need an over all general sub to be tight hitting as well as low and hard. I'm not so much into rap and hip/hop but more into the industrial (Nine Inch Nails) and Synthpop which have their own style of low frequencies. Here are my thoughts. If I take take 2 10w7's and put them in a sealed box, supply them with the proper power should I hopefully get loud, tight bass with the ability to hit lower notes if it needs to??? It has the long throw to hit lower but maybe in a sealed box it will also be able to punch out those tight hitting bass notes as well?? SPL was my priority years back. I still want the lows but would like to hear sound quality over SPL. Any ideas???

My experience with W7s is that they are EXTREMELY picky on the types of enclosures they like. Get it off by just a bit and you end up muddy and overbearing. I would suggest that, if you're going to pay JL prices anyway, you do some research and see what other options there are out there. Especially when referring to sealed, I think you can find some serious competitors to the W7 that'll end up saving you some cash (which you can turn around and use to have a proper enclosure built for them).

The reason I say W7's is because I can get them at a extremely reasonable price. Half of what they retail for. (friend is selling car) If I build it to the exact square footage required as specified by JL then I should be fine, no?

I prefer W6s sealed and W7s ported. For SQ, a sealed W6 is hard to beat, even with the cheaper options that many say exist. Then again, what do I know? I opted to go with a discontinued Boston Acoustics G3 over a 10w6v3. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

For a cross between SQ and a little volume, a ported W7 is the route I would recommend. The only down side is one generally needs to design the ported enclosure for the vehicle that it is being installed in versus going with JL Audio's recommended ported enclosure for a W7. Sorry, but all vehicles are not created equal therefore one ported enclosure generally won't fit all.

Now if you just want something loud as fawk and don't care about SQ... There are MANY options out there that are cheaper than a W7.
