The new 1000/1 AMP is still running perfectly. I still plan to install the high-output alternator whenever Mechman gets their hardware figured out (sent it back at the start of this week). AND per JL, I am going to run a 4 gauge ground cable from the battery to the grounding point of my AMP. As of late 2012, JL says they can see considerable, measurable benefits to adding a battery-to-amp ground cable. The reason relates to the limited ability of an average car's sheet metal to provide the highest quality ground. The car audio manufacturers seem to know a hell of a lot more about how to install their equipment than the typical experienced installer. While rerunning my door speaker wire, my installer at Maximum Audio Video was about to put my JL C5 crossovers in my car door (which JL in all CAPS say never do due to water damage) and my installer not only was clueless about the supplemental grounding cable, but also told me to use sheet metal screws instead of the JL Master Ground Lug... (maybe he knew that he was going to ride the clock for 4-hours and didn't feel like going through the hassle of installing that lug plus it doesn't bring much money to the dealer @ $10.) Since my trust in that dealer is shot, I have to wonder a lot of things about JL's signature dealers. Maybe it just means they have an amazingly talented sales team who know how to move a lot of JL product. You have to read posts like this in a forum or contact JL directly to troubleshoot equipment or installs.
