jesus christ maxxsonics

I always heard $1 a watt, never paid that myself but... I'm pushing an Exile xi1500 that goes for around the same price as the amps above and couldn't be happier. I've had plenty of amps claiming that much power but nothing I've owned comes close to what the Exile does. I'd do it again.

not defending the price but MB Quart use to be considered "Hi-End" car audio. MB Quart Q's use to sell for $1200/set, even there entry level stuff sold for $300. Maybe Maxxsonics is going to make MB Quart a real Hi-End car audio product again, lol. who am I kidding, MB Quart will never be the same.

Nobody's saying it's stupid to buy expensive amplifiers. If you can afford them, more power to you. What we're saying is the price for this particular Mb Quart amp is ridiculous.

A dollar a watt is crazy. That's just not right. Maybe for an amazing 2 or 4 chan, but a Sundown 3500 costs a grand. $0.29 per watt.
$1 per watt wasn't out of the question for quality stuff WAY back in the day. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

In the late 80s/early 90s, quality amplifiers cost MORE than $1 per watt. IIRC a Punch 75 was in the $300 price range and a Punch 150 was in the $500 area. People didn't even bat an eye for paying those prices back then.

You young whipper snappers don't realize how cheap power is these days compared to when I was in my teens and early 20s.

That's true. But back in the day, most guys didn't need 1,500 watts or more...

I think it's crazy too and like I said have never paid that myself. I did my research on Exile before putting down the cash and felt comfortable doing so but agree, spending that kind of cash for that MB Quart is ridiculous.

I remember those days of needing 1.5 cubic feet sealed to run a 10 or 3 cubic feet to run that same 10 ported. Of course, those drivers had high sensitivity and didn't require tons of power to sound decent in the car. Fast forward to the present day and power is needed because the sizes of the enclosures managed to shrink.

IIRC, Hoffman's Iron Law pretty much states that one can have small enclosure size, deep bass, and high sensitivity. Pick any two.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
