I want something that will sound nice and get loud. Can someone please give me some ideas? It'll be in a box that's about 2.5ft^3 and the tuning will change based on the sub. But somewhere between 28-32 as it'll be a street beater.

How about getting an FI Q. I mean its the latest rage here but it fits your bill. Havent heard one but with the millions of testimonials about it confirm that it sound decent and gets pretty loud.

there is a Memphis mojo 12" in the classifieds right now for 275 shipped....heard one in hatchback and it was insane....it was in four cubes though....it wouldn't hate 2.5 though
