...probably a stupid idea.
As some of you may know, I'm running a set of SPX-177R's off of 2 channels of an Infinity 7541a amp (and an AA Assassin 10 of the other 2 channels bridged). They sound nice and clear, but one characteristic is that the midbass isn't anything that would induce naseua or a nose-bleed. I'm really happy with them, don't misunderstand me, it's just that I really like strong midbass. As far as SQ goes, these Alpine's got it!
I just ordered a set of Kicker SSMB6's that should be arriving tomorrow to install in the rear speaker locations. Well, really mid locations, as it's a tiny little VW Golf and the rears are just behind the front seats.
If I install and power the SS's off my amp, that means I would need a new amp for my sub.
*BUT*
What if I were to yank out the X mids and run the SS's off the X passives in their place? Anyone ever do anything like this with results meeting or exceeding any preconceived notions?
My bottom line:
I'd like to get a bit more midbass while retaining as much SQ as possible and circumventing another amp purchase.
Yay or Nay with replacing the X mids?
