It's unfortunate...

It just seems like individuality is repressed now. Music on the radio all sounds alike (and is very crappy) while the people who are creative and are actual musicians are being overlooked. People who are different, and manage to make it big, are forced to fit into a "stardom-mold" if you will. For example, Yellowcard; they had some great music in One for the Kids and Ocean Avenue. But, once they struck it big, Capitol wanted their next album to be a cookie-cutter rock album. Overall, it sucked. I mean, it had its good points, but I got bored with it quick.

Anyone listen to Calibretto 13? Of course not. Let me show you the lyrics to their song "Why Can't I be on MTV?"

Coporate capitalistic pigs, all you ads are fake

Keep lying to the sheep out there

But I won't take the bait

Use Pepsi and Nike, oh and VH1

Calvin Klein and Tommy Jeans make it look so fun!

By using all of the popular bands

They're selling out for more money

When will all of this end?

Let's exploit *** and more through our videos...

What you like is popular 'cos you have all the dough

Turn the kids to zombies they don't care 'cos they don't know

Feed us lies and greed and garbage on the radio

There's better music out there but you don't want us to know!

So advertise through mainstream movies, show off your logo

Stick it to some dumb pop superstar that everybody knows

Totalitarian America that's just how it goes!

Why can't we be a part of your game?

Why can't we have your fortune and fame?

Why can't we all just be the same?

'Cos we're not clones and we can think for ourselves!

i doubt many, if any, of you would have heard of much of what is on my zune.

Today i listened to:

islands

oh no! oh my!

Lonely, dear

aqueduct

john vanderslice

extra glenns

Deerhoof

I love music. Someone told me the other day "its so cute how you're really into music... that's so seattle of you"..

I thought it was funny.

Music is a shareable language of feeling and i pity people who just dont get it.

aqueduct FTW.

I love Zero the Controls.

I listened to them for a few hours while on a layover in atlanta... there's some angry f'n lyrics in their albums that you just don't notice over the music lol.

Im the same way Im all about listening to new(to me) but good music. My newest fetish.......Beethoven Piano Sonata in C sharp Minor aka moonlight

People love the stuff spewed by top-40 stations because it completes the mediocracy that is their lives. If people are surrounded by half-assed efforts that manage to garner millions of dollors, they don't feel so bad about the fact that their lives have amounted to nothing more than keeping up with the Joneses. They feel that mediocre is good enough. As long as a person can have the same cubicle, same Toyota Camry, same suburban home with a green lawn, picket fence, 2.5 kids, and golden retriever that the neighbor has, they can consider themselves successful.

I love that feeling when I get an album where the album art for it isn't even on the internet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what frustrates me is how most popular artists have little to no talent at all. any douche with a keyboard can make a "beat", and any douche that can talk can make up a song that kinda rhymes when they pronounce the words improperly.

Music in general isnt like it used to be. Its all about advertising and promotions.

Ever been to a concert that wasnt sponsored by some big company? Payed off by some corporation? Just used to promote the radio station and or venue it takes place at?

Another concert for the ages is never going to happen again, for example Woodstock 69'. Guess what, it wasnt sponsored by Miller Lite, Hot Pockets, or any other gay company. It was a show that promoted music and the people who love it.

Now the only thing people listen to is that garbage like Panic at the Disco, Brand New, Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance, The Killers, The Academy Is, Paramore, and any other band with a bunch of "guys" dancing around in womens pants and eye liner singing lyrics that are almost as indecisive as reading the lines of a Shakespeare poem.

I guess the more complicated, confusing, encoded, and generally dumb your lyrics are, the more you love music. Its almost as if the more confusing the better. This isnt poerty. You're 5'6, wearing skin tight jeans, eye liner, and can only play power chords.

That music is garbage. Dammit it pisses me off. The whole "scene" thing where you list every emo "alternative" band you like in your Music section on Myspace is just retarded.

"Music is my life!!!!" Apparently not. You cant play any intruments, explain the basic structure of music composition, the basics of music theory, and you cant read music. Music doesnt mean shit to you. The only thing that matters to you is following the lead of your friends, who followed their friends. You all try to be "different" and "alternative", but you all wear the same stupid pants, same gay makeup, same retarded band shirts, and listen to the same exact music. Go make up your own mind on what you like. Dont be so different that you are the same... Along with everyone else that you go to your stupid concerts with.

And whats the deal with these kids who are "punk" going to local shows their radio station puts on? I thought the idea was to stick it to the man? Not spend $45/ticket to get into a show put on by ClearChannel Corporation? And to take it a step further they buy the CD the local radio station puts out that is sponsored by some stupid corporation looking to advertise to a younger demographic. Then they buy the stupid $25 shirt, sold by the corporation that is putting on the show.

Yeah, thats real punk.

Wow, that was quite the rant, sorry.
