K Guys, You've all been very helpful and I appreciate all of the noob questions you've answered for me. Thanks to you all I've gone from almost purchasing Kicker CRV's to purchasing American Bass XFL's and I've learned how to build a box and tune it, Amazing!
Now that I've got XFL's on the way and the box built, I have nothing to do but turn my attention towards my components. I already replaced the TWO 6.5" factory woofers with TWO 6.5" Kenwood 3 way in the doors and a pair of Sony 6x9 2 way speakers in the rear deck. I regret paying $120 for the paid of 6.5" Kenwoods but at least the 6x9's were free from a friend.
I believe I want to get rid of all 4 of them and get mid bass woofers. At least this is what I have seen in a lot of installs. My Intrepid has the infinity sound system which has tweeters on each front door and a center dash speaker. Currently I have the 6.5's and 6x9's wire to my Old *** Sony XM-3546. I've had this amp for about 15 years and it's been in 5 different cars, It's been the one constant in my car audio life. I think it's a good amp, but I don't really know. Everything I thought I knew about car audio has gone out the window in the past few weeks as I've spent time wandering the forums and talking to you guys.
The 2 tweeters and the dash speaker are wired right to my Kenwood Head Unit.
So I guess my question is this: Should I ditch my 2 & 3 ways and replace them with woofers? can I keep the tweeters? should I upgrade them? The tweeters sound pretty good. Do the tweeters need to run off of an amp or are they fine being hooked up to my head unit?
If I do replace the door speakers and rear deck speaker, do I want SVC or DVC and do I want 2 or 4 ohm to run them to my amp? Do I ditch the Sony amp and find something better?
I have always just thrown some cheap component speakers in the doors and rear deck in every vehicle with this amp and never taken the time to learn about making them the best they can be. This is the first car that I've really taken seriously and I plan on investing here so I want to do things right.
Just looking for some ideas and maybe some good brands of component speakers for less than $100 per pair if at all possible. Hopefully my amp is good enough to keep up with today's speakers but I'll ditch it if necessary.
Thanks in advance everyone!
