sold a guy a red top about a mounth or so ago and now he claims the batt is leaking acid. (mind you optima's are dry cells that have a pasty substance inside).

he also claims that the side posts are dead as well..

he refuses to ship the batt back for exchange or refund apon return ot the batt. and he will not provide proof that side posts are dead.

here is a pick he send me of the batt with a watery substance on it. i've looked inside of an yellow top just after i dropped it and it had no watery substance inside it at all. optima them selves state that the their batt will not leak at all.

you tell me what you thing or have experinced.

i would find it hard to belieave that just the side post are dead seeing as how they are both linked internaly. i bet he crossed somthing and fried the battery. and they do not have a watery acid, its a thin paste-like crap.

for me, he would have to ship the battery to me for an inspection and test. if its his fault then owell but if its a bad battery then id ship him a new one and credit him for the return shipping.

this only if i were a dealer which iam not so "all sales are final"

every optima ive owned (2 Red and 1 yellow) has ran well past the warranty

the last redtop I sold I had had for 4 years and its still going

sounds like the guy had another problem to begin with and tried upgrading to another battery.

this is the reason you take the battery and get it load tested before you sell it to verify it is a good battery. when the buyer gets it he too should get it load tested to protect himself from a bad battery.

dead side terminals? screw him either he is stupid or scamming you. get him to take it to a local shop of your choice and check it out. That's fair then go from there. split the cost of the shop visit to be nice if you did not load test it before you sent ti out. I think most people could agree that would be a good starting point.

it was load test by me and fully charged before it shipped. if it was bad or leaking, i would have never thought about selling it. it was fine when i shipped. but the batt was tested and charged on top posts.
