I just installed a brand new 4 gauge kit running a TMA 500.1 and a 12 Eclipse Aluminum 6210. Now the sub is putting out a 2 ohm load and the amp is giving it 500 watts at 2 ohms. I have a 2003 ford taurus with the stock radio and a line out converter in the back. I dont have it grounded which i dont know if its the problem. But anyways to the problem; turn on the car and start playing the music the amp turns on then the sub starts playing one tone and its loud and doesnt change. And when i turn it down to 0 volume it still has it and it dies off. I cant play the sub bec of this problem. And my amp is still really hot after playing (burnt my hand after touching it for a sec) dont know why its like this but ams in madison said its normal since its old technology. Please give me a suggestion bec i want to bump lol.

do you mean that the amp isn't grounded or that the line out converter isn't grounded? if the amp isn't grounded, then def that. but a line out converter doesn't need to be grounded...

do away with the stock hu and converter run some rca's, hell I have an alpine on ebay right not thats only at like 50.00 you may be able to find an even cheaper one in a pawn shop or something but the way your going about it is a headache! and also did you take the rear speakers off the line the converter runs on you can't run the rear speakers and the converter on the same channel.

I had a my first system professionally installed like 4 years ago and they had a line out converter but i took all of it out. So i plugged everything back in with a new line out but i didnt ground it. And it works now but my amp gets so hot its ridiculous. I dont know if its just the amp and the technology in it or what. But i dont want it to hurt my subwoofer.

Nevermind it is 2ohm stable, whats your gain set to on the amp?

Did you try grounding the converter yet?
No i havnt yet. But i had ams check that for me and he said the sub was putting out a 2ohm load so thats correct. Now with my ground i have it behind the seat on a bolt. Idk where to put it in my car and i have used it in all my systems. This is the first amp that has overheated with that ground connection. And there is 5 dots and its set to the third dot starting on the left.

Well for 1. was it set correctly? with a DMM and all? 2. I would try and just sand away paint in the trunk and use a self tapping screw (small enough to stay in the metal, but not long enough to damage anything)

Lol i would hope so! he works for a car audio shop. Im going to sand it down tomorrow. And where my amp is at is on the back of the seat. it folds down so its easy to get to but could that cause it to overheat? And even when the seats are down and windows open in 70 degree weather you could fry a egg on the amp.

I have never used a line converter, So I am agnorant as far as that goes. But it seems you need to ground it first, then if you are still having problems, go from there. I have learned in my years to check myself at every step of the process so if there is a problem, I have a better idea where it is coming from. There could be many reasons why you are having this problem, check all of your grounds to start.

Well car audio guys can be dumb, do you own a DMM and have the ability to set the gains yourself?
