is wiring for lowest resistance best?

so you hear hype about a 1 ohm or even .5 ohm system. but why does that crap matter? If your system is 2 ohms at 2000 watts or 1 ohm at 2000 watts, are they not the same? I'm curious because I'm deciding whether to buy the 2 ohm dual voice coil or 4 ohm dual voice coil version of the same subwoofer, and also how to wire it. Should I do a 1 ohm stable monoblock with 2 ohm coils both in parallel, giving the least impedance? or use a two channel amp, with each channel on a coil? or use the two channel amp bridged to the dual 4 ohm coils in parallel?

you also have to account for potential box rise and inherently higher coil resistance due to hot weather, long play times, etc. That's why 1 ohm operation is preferred, because you're typically having an average resistance above 1 ohm when it's all said and done. Running at 2 ohm means in some instances you are actually running at like 2.5-3ohms worst case scenario and will lose power as a result.

You get better sound quality when you run a higher ohm load. thats why when you look at specs for an amp the closer to 0 you get the higher the thd goes. Also the reason most home stereo stuff is run at 8 or 16 ohm. That being said the vehicle is a much noisier environment than your house so you may not even hear a difference when driving down the road. So if you are going for spl then you can save money by going 1 ohm or if you are going for a more quality sound and dont care about money then go for the higher ohm load config.
