I already decided to go with the JL Audio 1000/1 but couldn't decide on what subs to get... I think I found the ones I want though... the Alpine SWR-1222Ds are rated at 500w rms so I think imma get a pair of those is this a good setup?? what size ported box should I make for these??

(these are what I think im gonna get until I save up enough for the 13w7)

I'm no expert on enclosures so I'll let someone else address what size box works best for a pair of 12" Type Rs (though there are multiple threads including one really, really long one specifically about that driver that I would imagine contains the info you're looking for) but as far as driving a pair of them off of a 1000/1 then I'd say good choice.

Wire the subs like so as the slash-series JL amps generally don't care for resistance loads below 1.5 Ohms:

i would keep the type r's over the dub seven
who knows... I probably will. My cousin has the JL 1000/1 and the 12w7 and it's loud as $#!+... I just thought the 13 would be louder cuz that amp is (supposedly) for that particular sub ya know? but no doubt.... as much as I hear bout the type Rs I might keep'em. Plus my friend had a pair of type S on an 800w amp.... I think is was soundstorm... and I like the way it sounded and it was even in a sealed box so.... what kind of ported box should I make for the type Rs?

EDIT: It's for a 96 ford explorer.
