Is This Even Possible?

I was at a sound comp today and was checking out a guys set up and he had two amps set up (He was in the two sub class) and he had one amp run properly with a stinger amp kit, then his second amp (Each amp was used to power one sub individually) he piggybacked to the first amp. So in other words, he has the one amp ran to the battery as it should, then the second amp has what looked like speaker wire ran from it, to the ground, power and remote connections of the other amp.

I listened to the guys set up and it sounded fine and I asked him why he ran the set up that way and he said it basically was because he had a 4 gauge kit which he can run 1400 watts off of so why run another kit.

So my question is simply, is that guy right? I wouldn't think so, but his stuff sounded fine. I don't see how the proper amount of power can transfer through small speaker wire to power a sub. I would think it would be like trying to hook up a amp from the battery using 12 gauge speaker wire.

nothing wrong with piggy backing as long as it's the correct gauge for the amount of amperage going through it. but you said he was using speaker wire? like 10 or 12g? even with the run being quite short (one amp to another) i wouldn't think it's safe and his wires could eventually melt and catch something on fire.... what kind of amps were they? how much power did they put out?
