Is this a Voice Coil Rubbing?

I just bought a used sub from someone on here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rage.gif.0ad8a6e5565b5fddce406566fdd05149.gif and it won't move freely when I push with my hand - I can push it down, and I can pull it up. The whole time it scratches. Is this the VC or what's up? It's a RE SE.

You sure your pushing straight down on it? You should be able to push straight down and have no resistance/noise at all. If there's any scratching that's definitely not good...Who did you buy it from?

Yeah it's straight down.. resistence, rubbing/scratching.. the f'ed sound. What do the coils read with a DMM?

I haven't yet. To do this, I leave everything hooked up and playing and measure?

Just put the pos/neg lead from the DMM onto the pos/neg speaker terminals... i know when i blew a coil in my jugg (dual 1.4) sub one coil read fine and the other coil wouldnt even show a reading... sounds fried to me

and no the sub doesnt have to be hooked up to anything but the leads to the DMM to tell u an ohm load

Yeah that sounds like ***, but it also appears that the coils aren't blown, so maybe something just shifted during shipping.

can recone that sub to handle 1500rms all day. se and sx are the same motor...

I only have 750 to give it from a jl 750/1 due to space constraints. How much would a recone run? 100 plus shipping both ways? Wouldn't I be better off just getting a new sub? At this point I don't even want to spend more money on junk - if I get a full refund maybe I'll recone it- can I recone it for more low end
