Is there such a thing as "treble" SPL competition?

T3mpest does that apply to treble too? I know gunshots in an indoor shooting range are so loud that it'll instantly and permanently damage your ears without protection. I know the human ears are much more sensitive at 1kHz than 30Hz so is that why none of us are deaf from blasting 150dB in our cars?

yeah. The ear works by a resonating. The eardrum vibrates and moves little hairs that have nerves attached to them. The ear itself has a resonanse frequency of near 3.5k or so, that's why hearing is most sensative. You can move ALOT more air and create pressure, but since it's not really moving the eardrum it's harder to do damage. However, 150 is defintely pushing it and that sheer pressure is causing damage. I've been in a few cars doing 150+ on music and it is still loud. Fletcher Munson curves will give you an idea how frequencies vs volume and hearing damage scale up and down. 120-130 of treble is about the same as a car doing a 150 IIRC. So a car like that is still as bad or worse than a rock concert long term. Just like musicians dont' go instantly deaf, lets see you guys when your 50 lol.

well if there was such a thing then i already doing good

The military (and some police departments) had the same idea a long time ago....

Sonic weapon

Sonic and ultrasonic weapons (USW) are weapons of various types that use sound to injure, incapacitate, or kill an opponent. Some sonic weapons are currently in limited use or in research and development by military and police forces. Others exist only in the realm of science fiction. Some of these weapons have been described as sonic bullets, sonic grenades, sonic mines, or sonic cannons. Some make a focused beam of sound or ultrasound; some make an area field of sound. Although many real sonic and ultrasonic weapons are described as "non-lethal", they can still kill under certain conditions.

Thanks for posting this RichB. Most common people don't know about the one in the pic you posted. A lot of people have reported feeling sick or getting sick when hit with one. You don't hear it either, you feel it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have received a lot of hearing damage from years of repairing 2-stroke engines (12K+ RPM) and playing electric guitar/concerts. The higher frequencies above 2Khz are definitely a killer for your hearing. The higher frequencies vibrate your ear drums at such a high rate that is can easily damage the nerves and possibly break loose the tiny hairs T3mpst was mentioning. Prolonged hearing damage also results in a serious ear wax problem, which I'm sure you guys don't want to hear about.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You guys don't like videos like this?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif j/k (96) 6x9's and 34 tweeters! ridiculous

Yes... they have midbass and treble competitions in Brazil with metering. They are doing 150s in both categories.
that's ridiculous... I wonder if it's an array or if they build one note wonders in the midbass and treble region... A good tapped horn with the right drivers I'd bet I could build somethign that coudl do that wihtout using 60 midranges, but it'd be VERY bandwidth limited... That's how SPL got it's roots thought too I suppose. Lots of woofers in sealed boxes before someone got smart about acoustics and realized you can be louder with less if you give up bandwidth.
