Cali is so diverse that you can find everything there. Every culture has at least one community with a strong presence there. From ghetto to mansions to luxury apartments to backwoods. Plenty of non-crowded beaches even in the peak of summer if you know where to go. Central CA has a lot fewer options than SoCal, though. I lived down there from '87 until last year. So far, though, the thing I missed the most is summer drives on PCH, especially through Newport and Laguna.

Guaranteed as diverse, if not more. Los Angeles is the second largest city in the country, and a major port city. One of the destinations in the country for international travel. I've had employees from Africa. Every civilized culture on the planet has representation there.
