is the installer serious?

Like Noah said, that sounds about on par with what shops will charge. Now the whole bit about him spending ours on the computer...thats either a lie, or he is the slowest designer ever. It usually takes me about 20min to calculate volume, port length, port area, and tuning frequency, then about another 10min to render it in sketch-up, and even if the customer wants F3 and other parameters I can put it in BBP6 or Win ISD and get those in a few min as well. SO an Hour at Most on the computer.

For a standard rectangle 2 12" box (assuming its for everyday subwoofers, and not SPL style or anything that would require extra bracing and the like) At the shop I would probably charge 200, and we are a small shop. Thats just a bare box though. Add 30 for carpet, 100 for bedliner, 150 for paint.

You are greatly over-exaggerating. It takes at least an hour to completely build a box AND carpet. It's always the "My buddy"......
werd.

i dont even think i could draw out the cuts and make them in 15 minutes because I'm a lazy stoner.

When I went in and talked to the guy at our local shop about bulding me a 2ft.3 box for a single twelve he told me after carpet and labour it would be about 300. ngsm hit it with his post. The shops need to make money off of this.

I built my last 3 boxes for a total of $50, that includes glue, screws, and a circle cutting tool ($30). Now mind you, I got the wood for free, so that helped keep the cost down.

if thats the case id be more willing to buy one
yeah if you look under the products page, product pricing says it includes shipping. ive never gotten a box from him but alot of people on this forum rave about them. ive never heard a bad thing.

id get one from him but i have alot of extra time on my hands so im going to attempt my own box making. probably get one in a couple weeks when i fail miserably at it lol not a craftsman at all!!!

I support professionals and their shops by all means, but something so simple and as a forum member, I would suggest that you take the time to learn how to do it yourself. I understand that a shop has to make money in order to stay open. Now if you were talking fiberglass, then I would say just cough up the dough, as that task is not so noob-friendly, and relentless if you make a mistake.

$300 is nothing.... I was quoted $700 for a box for a DD 3512 and I'm just talking about a 3/4 MDF box. He told me he would put resin in it, and some bedding crap around the box to make it "indestructible". Then he tells me since i am a "loyal customer" he will do it for $500. I mean wtf i just walked into the store for the first time and I'm already a loyal customer?
