Is polyfill needed for a correct box?

I am wondering the effects of poly-fil on a sealed box built to the correct specifications. I have a 12" Idmax in a 1.36 sealed box. Though it is .06 larger than ID recommends, it sounded good. After putting poly-fil in, it sounds a bit quieter. Does the poly do anything besides make the driver think it is in a larger enclosure? I put a 1.25lb bag in the box.

What would you do?

Also, how many times can you insert/remove a screw from a mounting hole without damaging the MDF?
