Is my sealed box big enough?

Ok so I'm working with VERY limited space as I am fitting a 10" sub under the seat in my boat. The biggest I could make the box was 19" L x 13" W x 5" H. I used 3/4" MDF so subtract 1.5" from that. The sub I bought is a shallow one.

Rockford Fosgate R2 R2SD4-10

Specifications:

Size: 10-Inches

Nominal Impedance: Dual 4-Ohm

Voice Coil Diameter: 2" (50mm)

Magnet Weight: 45 oz. (1.28kg)

Speaker Connector: Dual 12-Gauge Compression

Re: 6.60-Ohms

Le: 4.2mH

Qms: 7.00

Qes: 0.81

Qts: 0.73

Vas: 21.7 (Liters)

Sd: 333 (cm2)

Xmax: 8.0mm

Frequency: 39.3Hz

Sound Pressure Level (SPL): 82 (dB at 1w/1m)

Cutout Diameter: 9.125 Inches (232 mm)

Mounting Depth: 3.417 Inches (86.8 mm)

Woofer Displacement: 0.037 Cubic Feet (1.05 Liters)

Will this sub work well with my sealed box?

you are roughly .3^ft. shy of what you need for that sub, odds are it will emphasize a higher frequency range than it normally would in the proper enclosure... In other words it will make the sub "peaky" and won't hit the lower notes as well...

If that's absolutely as large as you can go, use some polyfil in the enclosure. The sub will perform as if its in a larger enclosure.(from what I understand) There are charts to tell you how much to use or maybe someone with more knowledge on the advantages of polyfil can chime in.

yes, polyfill will help, but there is no amount you can fit into .4^ft. enclosure that will make it .7^ft., that's nearly double the size, it's just not possible... Also be careful as being in a smaller enclosure will already have your sub running hotter than usual and polyfill increases this effect so it will run even hotter yet... Your sub will also be more power hungry for the same output as you would see in the larger enclosure with less power, so be mindful of this. If using polyfill make sure it can not contact the sub at all or you could potentially have a fire issue if it gets hot enough...

Agree. You are almost half the size you need to be. The box will not dig very low at all and no amount of polyfill will be able to be stuffed in there to increase it enough to fix it. If you had say a 1.75ft^3 box and needed it to be 2ft^3 you could "trick" trick the sub with polyfill but not if you needed a 3ft^3 box if that example makes any sense.

I am in stereo car sound system business for over years and according to your requirements, yes it is perfect for your sealed box.
