Is more port always better?

I am trying to build a more efficient box.

I have a custom 10 which can mechanically take ~1500 in the current box and a lot more for burps.

Ran off of an aq2200

Is a smaller box....like 1.0 cubes with 20sq in of port to much?

What about 1.2 with 25 sq in of port?

can to much port hurt spl?

i use around 15-18 square inches of port per cube in my sub box designs normally. so your right on with the needed port area.

edit; also a bigger box would be more efficient, but power handling would be lowered. if you want to run that much power and assuming this is for burps, stick to the smaller side of things and add more port.

too big of a port can sometimes cause unloading issues. It's more for what's needed though. To have a large port while still having small net volume means having a grossly large port in length which is just inconvenient and not needed. The 12-16 sq in per cu ft is just a rule of thumb to avoid port noise for the most part and not choke the sub. You could go bigger but you definitely don't need to.
