Is it really that hard?

I obviously have a Lincoln LS, and it has 6x8 openings for the speakers. So I bought a set of CDT ES620's, and set up an appointment at the local Autotoys to have them installed. At time of installation, I was told they were too big to install due to the depth and size of the magnet. So then I recently bought some SLC265's, and yesterday Autotoys said it's physically impossible to install 6.5's into a 5x7 opening. I threw a nutty and left. So I'm on a mission to do it myself.

Is it really that hard to mount the tweeters and crossovers? I'm going to be buying an adapter plate to install the mids, which doesn't seem like a problem. My only concern is cutting a spot for the tweeters and figuring out a place to hide the crossovers. This will be a first for me. Can anyone tell me what I might need for this install? Thanks

yea, go back and tell them that everybody on the biggest car audio forum in tha world says they are idiots...

I can see the CDT's being too big to install without a lot of custom work, but they didn't even look at the Rainbows. The Rainbows are about half as big as the CDT's, and they saw 6.5 and said no. Both times I went, they offered to sell me MB Quart 5x7's. I just don't think they wanted to do the work and tried to sell me their stuff hoping I'd bite.

Figure out where you want the tweeters and get a hole saw for the cut out. Xovers can be mounted by the amp or if small enough I've hot glued them to the inside of the door panel.

They always try to do that. I went to a place back when I had very little knowledge of car audio to have the wiring fixed on my box (I didnt know how to do it myself, but i had enough knowledge to know what the problem was). The guy talked down on me like I was some sort of typical retarded teenager and then tried to push a bigger Rockford amp on me. I got pissed, explained the problem in depth for the 100th time and finally one of his installers came up and understood what was up and fixed it for me. Another time we went to the same place cause we needed a battery terminal for an install we were doing on my friends car and they tried to get us to buy a capacitor to go along with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif I told him capacitors are a waste of time and he looked at me like I was nuts. lol

Redline, that's how it was. I tried telling the guy about the adapter plates to fit the 6.5's, and he told me there is no such thing. If I wanted to buy the MB Quart 5x7's, they could do that though.

I actually took it to another place yesterday afternoon, and the guy looked them over and said he'd research it and call me back. He called me back, and said that he doesn't see a problem with them fitting. He said the power window motor is in that area, but it shouldn't be a problem fitting them. See what happens when you do a little research? Just a shame that the people at Autotoys don't take the time to research stuff before they shoot you down.

I agree once you get all that installed go back and show them that they were just stupid and didn't know what they were talking bout go get some MDF and make an adapter ring . and for placing the tweeters you could set em up in the pillars cut a hole for them there in in the door panel itself which ever you would want to do i've done em in the door panel's , pillar's and by the handle in the door panel also but did that on a mustang so was a perfect spot to drill the hole.

I won't go back there. I think I'd freak out if I ever went back. They installed my headunit in wrong too. The balance controls the fader and vice versa. I'm going to fiddle with it this weekend, and if I can't I have an appointment with the other shop for Thursday.
