to run a sub and 2 speakers off a 4 channel amp, as in the front two speakers are on channels one and two and then sub is bridged on channels 3 and 4?

i dont see this beeing possible because an amp sends out a signal hpf or lpf on all channels available, 4 channles may be different, then again depending on how good the 4 channle amp is also makes a difference on all the settings available

HU's typically send the same signal out of all the outputs, at least mine does.

If you buy the right 4channel you have control over all the channels filters. Most do that.

Also depending on your headunit, you may be able to control that through the Head Unit, I can on mine.

It's possible man, trust me, people do it all the time.
