Thereare plenty of ways to do it

I have a nice sony reciever with stereo sub pre outs

I put a older PA amp onto them and then out to a set of JBL's

worked great...pa amp plugged into swiched plug on back of reciever and pounded like a mother

I just picked up a few 15's and gonan do the same

I ahve a few people in my dorm that need to be straigted out

so u would only need a power converter if ur gonna hook up an amp right...u wouldnt need a power converter if ur just gonna use the subs?

but then would u get full power from the subs without an amp if the subs are hooked into a reciever or stereo?

You have to make sure you have like an EQ on the line or the reciver has low lvl pre outs

Becuse its never good to feed subs a sig over 120
