Is it my ground or something worse

I have a SoundStorm EV4.400 powering 4 mtx tn653 in my 02 trailblazer. the amp sits under my seat. i was running these speakers unamped for a little while just fine until i put the amp and now i have quite a bit engine noise coming through the speakers. i have the ground running to a bolt on the section between the two doors and it is sanded down. i dont have a voltmeter to actually test it but ive moved the ground around a little but thats the best spot i can find . so my question is do you think i just need to find a better ground or bad hardware or what? im at a loss here.

Where are the RCA's ran, do they run with any other bundle of wires or your power wire? What deck do you have? How high is your gain? Remember the gain is matched to the output voltage on your source unit.

so along these lines, would it be a bad idea to just get a ground loop isolator? is that an unnecessary/wrong route to take?
I wouldn't suggest it. My train of thought is that doing this is addressing the symptom instead of locating/correcting the problem(s).
