Well I messed with some stuff, haven't downloaded anything new yet, though.

What exactly are the legality issues with torrents?

You can d/l but not u/l?

i've been using torrents for a while and something has always bothered me. when i use utorrent, i'll be downloading something and under seeds it says 0(6762). does this mean out of 6762 seeds, im not connecting to any of them? i've done my port forwarding but it seems to be less consistant now. any ideas?

You guys don't know what your doing. I get over 1 MB download all the time.

Like others have said, your client has to be setup properly.

You won't max out on speed with public sites. Find membership sites or even better sites that require invites. ex, for music, oink.me.uk

and i use utorrent, I like it better then Azureus. Plus its not a memory hog like azereus.

I have uTorrent also. Im just getting used to torrents, but looking for another tracker, like you mentioned. Id love to try oink, but the whole invite only thing got me.

yes, It is always recommeded to keep a good ratio with membership sites unless you want the boot

Ok boys.. lets try to think logical here. No one is doing this any better than anyone else (dragoncub).

Part of how fast you can download something totally depends on how many seeds there are. And part of how many seeds there are, is how well you can connect to them, and how well you can connect to them depends on how your router is configured.

And then there's how fast of a connection your are purchasing from your ISP. My connection is 12MB/s down and 1.5MB/s up which equates to 1200kb/s down and 150kb/s up.

Your average home connection can vary from 500kb/s to 800kb/s down. AGAIN, depending on all of the above criteria.

To successfully connect to the maximum possible seeds you need to have your ports forwarded through your firewall in your router. You also need to enable packet encryption to disguise your bandwidth useage from the ISP (alot of the time if encryption isn't enabled, they start throttling the line).

Also, the seeds on the specific torrent need to be doing all of the above too.. or else the information won't get out as quick and you still won't be downloading as fast.

I found the guide for all that good stuff, and got some of it done except for the forwarding stuff because its a bit late for something that detailed. And IMO the good shepherd's was ok, matt damon's character has problems...
