Is it me or is this a stupid idea?

well tweets in the a-pillars or top of the dash will raise the soundstage but they're still the FACTORY tweets. Right idea, poor execution.

BTW you can attenuate the CAL25s with the crossovers. Jumper 5 in position 3 is what you want if there's some distance between the mid and the tweet.

Some pioneer headunits have an internal active crossover. Therefore you would have the proper xover frequency and I don't think I would be so worried about it then. The key is the right power at the rigt frequency. A tweeters power handling drops steeply the lower in tone you go.

I beleive how it works is the front is the tweet and the rear is the mid and then there is also an output for subs when the xover is active. You just run the rcas' to the channels that you are going to use for your mids or tweeters.

ya i just called back and wanted to clarify to them and he finally mentioned that the tweeters were the reason he didn't want to bi-amp them because he was pretty sure they would blow
i asked about leaving the stock tweets in and he said the reason he likes to do that is because when u have the tweets and mids in the doors next to eachother the soundstage is not so much in front of you and by leaving the stock tweets in which won't be that loud just as more of a fill it will bring the soundstage up more

sounds like that makes more sense now so i guess well see on friday how it sounds

A tweeters range is the area most sensative to cancellation issues as wavelenghts are very short. 2 sets of tweeters, each running the same range wont' really bring your stage up. Sure, part of the sound will be higher, but that's much different than having a coherent soundstage at eye level, although your not likely to get that with stock locations anyway. All in all a bad idea, as long as your crossover points are reasonable and you set your gains right your tweets will be fine. Tweets rarely see much power inhernently anyway, due to their intended frequency range, there simply isnt' alot of energy up there unless your using tones.

The tweeter's power handling ability will be dictated by its crossover settings. Witht he proper crossover settings, those tweeters could handle that much power and more. Any competent owner/installer should understand that concept, unless they just install pre-fab compoent sets and coxials all day long.

He sounds like the typical local installer... a little bit of correct, a little bit of incorrect, a whole lot of poor reasoning at bringing it all together in a coherant plan.

If you dont want to do this, simply tell your dad your predicament. Explain that you are confident you are getting bad advice from him, and he "wont" hook your system up the way you wanted/planned/designed. Heck, bring him here and we'll tell him the how's and why's of it, if you want. Im sure your dad will understand, and help you come to a solution. Good luck.

Ya, i just called back and told the guy that leaving the stock tweets is a bad idea and he said just listen to it first and see if you like it so i ono wutever i guess... they do a clean job installing the tweeters in the doors and stuff that i don't have time for so ill let them do all that and if i don't like it ill just wire it to my original plan

since the stock tweets are running off the headunit amp cant i just turn that off to turn off the stock tweets if i don't like them?

you could but i guarantee you wont.

let them install them i guess, dont let them run the coaxials in the back because they're just trying to make money off you on that one.

you can always change the wiring if they just wire them to a single channel to bridge them to get the right amount of power anyway.
