Jon Stewart doesn't have a very good grasp of monetary policy. I'd hate to call that show news. It's hard, from an analytical POV to get the Colbert Report, as one doesn't know exactly what he is joking about? He says something as a joke, but is incorrect. Is the fact that he is wrong the joke? Is the little sidebar the joke?

I watched McLame this morning on GMA's train thing they are doing. Everytime they asked him a very straightforward question - for example - "How do you think the economy is doing"... he would reply with a small anecdotal story then tip-toe around the question. How well the economy is doing depends on who you are now doesn't it? The common metrics we use to grade the health of the economy do not signal as bad of a situation as the media portrays.

So what is a candidate to do? Tell the truth (which people don't believe) or make up some BS? I bet if he came across with a list of financial metrics, then people would say he is in cahoots with Wall Street.

How do you properly explained 'Constrained Discretion' to those unfamiliar with the Taylor Rule?

why do we need a president anyway?

In this country the system of checks and balances basically eliminates the president from making any decisions that the house and senate don't want him to make.

I realize we need a "poster boy" for the US, but why? Why not let the country run with the Senate, the House, and maybe start another cabinet instead of one singular president...just filled with the most educated senate members or other elected members....would make a lot more sense to me then just having one President for everyone to hate

Yeah.. I was thinking that had something to do with it. Decision by majority takes a while, and with all these issues.. it would just slow the governmental process down even more.
